I guide on three bodies of water – the California Delta, New Melones, and Don Pedro. In an effort to help you determine the best trip for you or your group please use this as a guide and consider this a recommendation only. We will always discuss the trip prior to scheduling to determine which body of water is best for you.
The California Delta is suited for all levels of anglers and is a year round fishery for large mouth bass. The Delta will provide the best opportunity for a personal best -- "A TOAD". Both the conventional angler and fly fisherman can enjoy great fishing most of the year. I begin to pursue striped bass in September and will fish combination trips during the months of September – December.
New Melones is one of the Mother Lode Lakes that provides great spotted bass fishing year round. I highly recommend fishing this lake in the late winter through summer months, February – September especially for new anglers or young anglers. My 5 and 7 year old daughters have enjoyed 50-100 fish days on this lake during that time of year. This is also a great lake to learn how to use your electronics more efficiently. Side imaging, down scan, use of waypoints, and fish or structure identification can all be taught and utilized to the fullest on this lake.
Don Pedro is probably my favorite lake. If quantity of fish are what you are after this is not the lake for you. This is a quality largemouth fishery that can produce huge large mouth bass in the spring. If you are looking to pursue bass on a swim bait or want to learn how to fish in 15-65 ft of water this is the trip for you. I would recommend this lake from early spring to early summer. Boat traffic can get heavy during the summer months and I try to avoid that time of year. This is also a great lake to learn how to use electronics more efficiently. Side imaging, down scan, use of waypoints, fish and structure identification can all be taught and utilized to the fullest on this lake.
